If your determination is fixed, I do not counsel you to despair. Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.

Diligence is the mother of good fortune. Benjamin Disraeli (thanks to brainyquote.com)
Diligence is the precursor of success.
When I got out of the Army, I went to the University of Utah. Somehow I passed a chemistry test which allowed me to take chemistry with the chemistry majors. I knew nothing about chemistry, I never took it in high school, but somehow I pass that blasted test. So I was immediately lost in the classroom. I didn’t have the slightest idea about what they were talking about. So an army buddy took me to his home and spent four hours with me to teach me high school chemistry.
With that start and plenty of hard work and due diligence, I succeeded in chemistry. In fact, I decided to major in chemistry. This I changed later because I decided that I would have to be satisfied with a BS degree and I did not want to be a bench chemist. So I switched to an engineering field that utilizes chemistry. Later, after working as an engineer for five years, I returned to college and obtain the Ph.D.
None of this would have happened if I had been lax rather than diligent in learning chemistry.
We have to be diligent in our educational activities to succeed.
So exercise due diligence. The reward is success.
