The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office. Dwight D. Eisenhower (Thanks to brainyquote.com)
Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. Dwight D. Eisenhower (Thanks to brainyquote.com)
Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969) who we knew as “Ike” was elected president of the United States after serving as the European commander in World War II. When he was in Germany on seeing the German Autobaun he remembered crossing the country in the 1930s on Highway 30. He was in a test to see how military vehicles to be moved across to our country. The Autobahn showed him how to do it swiftly. So while President, he initiated our Interstate Highway System.
I traveled to Germany many times. When driving the German Autobaun we could see the big Mercedes Benz in the rear view mirror. They passed us like we were standing still and we were going about 120 miles an hour. There were lots of burned out cars along the road. They were left there to remind us to stay in the right lane and to be careful.
I visited the Mercedes Benz factory in Stuttgart, Germany. They have a museum there too. I told them jokingly to give me a car. The gave me the key ring for one and a model (which I still have unless one of my grandkids took it.) I’m still hoping for the real thing.
I have visited President Eisenhower’s boyhood home and his museum. He was a man of humble birth who had a great destiny.
