If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn’t ask me, I’d still have to say it.

Stress Is a Killer
We human beings have a stress alert system that never sleeps. Just about anything can cause stress and worry. And then we don’t sleep.
It’s the old fight or run syndrome. We have another, “Can’t we talk this over?”
Stress can come from something we see or something we hear. It can also come because we just made it up. Some folks don’t feel normal if they don’t have some stress buzzing around inside them. It can come because we over react to a situation. We draw conclusions, often false, that amplify the stress.
There are ways to overcome stress. One way is to eat a candy bar, and then an ice cream cone and then a double-decker Dagwood sandwich. Stress makes some people want to eat. With others, it causes illness including migraine headaches.
Stress causes people to put an extra deadbolt lock on each door. It causes them to buy alarm systems. Some folks have a house full of guns because of stress.
We all have some level of stress. Sometimes we can get rid of it by meditation. All we may need is a walk in the woods with our dog zipping back and forth in front of us. Hobbies are great destroyers of stress. So is service to others.
If stress is dominating your life, I suggest that you seek counseling from your doctor or other counselor. You don’t want to go through life like that.
